Finally got up the courage to try it again: tomatoes in pots and raised planters with…stuff in em.
The last time I seriously gave The Family Farm a shot I built a decent little raised bed with good drainage and plenty of volume for soil, but got nothing worth eating out of it. We actually grew some really large cucumbers but I somehow chronically fail to harvest cucumbers before the become bitter. Also the tomatoes never grew…
This year we’ve got Early Girl tomatoes in pots and have sprouted a bunch of Jack-O-Lantern pumpkins to put in a low planter my dad built for us so they can vine out onto the ground.

There’s something about seeing pumpkins growing that I just love. I’m a sucker for Halloween season and fall and I guess watching pumpkins growing just reminds me of the season. I know this because each year I make a point to throw the several (sometimes 20+…) pumpkins I buy to decorate the house and yard out to rot and naturally grow up, which a couple of times has actually worked. Funny enough one year we cut a watermelon by the pool and it grew into a pretty large fruit we ate the next year. Hopefully at least one of these pumpkin sprouts produces some pumpkins and those tomatoes turn out edible!
